A 36-year-old female Chicago police officer was shot and killed in the line of duty Thursday night in the city’s East Chatham neighborhood after an investigatory traffic stop led to a police chase, with several suspects in police custody.

The female officer was transported by other officers in a squad car to University of Chicago Hospital.

The incident took place about 4:18 a.m. in the 3700 block of West 67th Place, CPD said, with both the off-duty officer and the armed suspects firing their weapons.
